Would appreciate any advice you can offer

We had a contractor place a travertine floor (18" by 18" Tiles (http://www.g682.net) ).  It didn't appear to have been properly floated and (http://maplered.com) there was a great deal of lippage to consider upon completion.  He spent several days grinding the edges of the individual Tiles (http://www.g682.net) until the pores in the Tiles (http://www.g682.net) became noticeably open and (http://maplered.com) in some places gouged. At this point the floor doesn't appear level, but he's assured us that after honing it will be perfectly level and (http://maplered.com) we won't have any problems with the floor.  Does this seem reasonable?

He also placed Granite (http://tanbrown.org) Counter (http://GialloFiorito.com) tops from Slabs (http://www.VerdeUbatuba.com) he selected on our behalf.  We're aware that an entire Granite (http://tanbrown.org) Counter (http://GialloFiorito.com) differs from the much smaller sample, but the Counter (http://GialloFiorito.com) s have what I believe are called "color patches" which are rather unsightly and (http://maplered.com) close together, and (http://maplered.com) which didn't appear in the sample.  Are these typical and (http://maplered.com) can anything be done to make them less obvious?  The Granite (http://tanbrown.org) also feels rough in spots and (http://maplered.com) has some gouges and (http://maplered.com) pits.  We paid a significant amount of money for both the tile and (http://maplered.com) Granite (http://tanbrown.org) , so would appreciate your opinion and (http://maplered.com) any advice you might offer.  Thanks.
